About the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance
The Downtown Millburn Development Alliance (DMDA) was established by the Millburn Township Committee in 1992. The stated purpose for creating the DMDA, a non-profit corporation, was to enhance the commercial viability and attractiveness of the downtown business area and to promote economic growth and employment within the Township.
There are approximately 500 retail, office, and commercial properties that are located in the downtown Millburn Special Improvement District (SID). The boundaries of the SID are: Main Street from Willow Street to the Paper Mill Playhouse; Millburn Avenue from Douglas Street to Locust Street; Essex Street from Millburn Avenue to Douglas Street; and Spring Street, Lackawanna Place, and Holmes Street between Millburn Avenue and Essex Street.
A Board of Directors of between 25 and 31 members is elected by Association members for three year overlapping terms. The Board consists of retail business owners, property owners, residents, financial/professional/service businesses, and at-large members. In addition, there is an Executive Committee, consisting of the four Board officers and the chairpersons of the various standing committees, which meets monthly. The Committee oversees the administrative operation of the DMDA. A full-time Executive Director is responsible for implementing the Committee’s policies, administering the daily operations, assisting existing businesses and attracting new ones, and serving as a liaison with the Township government.
